Subject: memorial service for craig vanderveen

We are now able to announce that a memorial service for Craig Vanderveen will be held on Friday, July 27, at 8:00 pm in Redeemer's auditorium. It will be led by our Chaplain, Syd Hielema. Craig's parents, Al and Anita Vanderveen, will also be present. This will give an opportunity to students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members to remember Craig, give thanks to God for his life and grieve his loss. (We will also take some time to acknowledge Craig's passing in a chapel in September for the sake of all of our students.) Please continue to uphold Craig's family in prayer, and also pray that all who are part of this service will experience the Lord's grace and be strengthened in their faith.

Craig (further details)

We are now able to share more details about the funeral for Craig Vanderveen
and contact information for sending condolences to the family. First a correction, the other person killed in the accident-Denise Veendaal--was a high school friend and not a cousin.

Their funerals will be on Wednesday, July 4, in the Carmen Canadian Reformed Church, Carmen, Manitoba-Craig's in the morning at 10:00 am and Denise's in the afternoon, probably at 2:00 pm; no visitation is planned the day before. The family is willing to help with lodging for anyone coming from Redeemer-just call Les Vanderveen (an Uncle) at 204 745 8273 or Hannah Vanderveen (cousin and Redeemer student) at 204 750 2258. Several students and alumni are planning to go, and Redeemer will also be sending a representative. We are also discussing plans for a memorial service at Redeemer in the fall when students have returned to campus.

Condolences can be sent to the family by emailing the funeral home doyles@mts.net and putting "condolences vanderveen family" in the subject line. Thank you for your prayer support for the family and all affected by this tragic event. We find our hope and confidence in the Lord.

Dr. Thorlakson

Dr. Thorlakson had a heart attack last Monday. He has since had angioplasty done. He was scheduled to get out of the hospital on Saturday. The attack has left him weak, borderline diabetic and looking grace straight in the eye. The doctors said that had he not been in such good the attack would have been massive.

The Hoogstads - Micah

Just read here and pray for little Micah and those who surround him.

Slipping

Please help me in praying for my friend. She has so much going on in her life right now. Every week seems to bring more pain and more trouble for her. It is so hard to watch her struggle. She just needs a break, some healing, peace, something, anything.

Bus Crash

A small Mennonite college in Ohio (sounds kind of like a Mennonite version of RUC) is in need of our prayers right now. Their baseball team was in a bus crash early this morning and 6 people are dead. You can read the whole story here.

Please pray

Well, I would greatly appreciate it if you could pray for my brother. It is horrible to see how sickness can take away someone's spirit in all that he does. For several years now, my brother has been struggling with severe sickness in his stomach and actually all of his body. School has always been a good disctraction, but currently he is between schools and his sickness is really starting to take over his life. Besides it already controlling what he eats, drinks, and what he can all do. It is effecting him everywhere right now. He is just tired, doctors don't really know what it is, and there is not really a cure, according to those that think they know what it is. Please pray, for strength, that he might feel renewed in energy and courage. Also pray for healing, some sort of healing in whatever form that comes. In Christ's name, Amen

Sarah Slotegraaf

she had surgery to have her appendix removed last night, and that went well, although they had to make a bigger incision than they had planned. she is in the hospital, and will be going back home to listowell either tonight or tomorrow, until hopefully monday. she hopes to be well enough on monday to get back into school a bit. so, prayers for a quick recovery (and for strength for josiah, and all those who are caring for her a lot).

Her name is Rebecca

Please please pray for my friend Rebecca who is in critical condition in the hospital right now. She has crohns disease, and has had some really bad spells already in the past, and this is worse, I think. She has lost 30 pounds (and was already incredibly thin) because she can't keep food down, and she has low blood pressure, and there's a possibility that her bowel will rupture and she'll have to have emergency surgery, and she can hardly swallow because of the pain it causes, and she is just not responding to her medication.
please pray for her. I think this is urgent. Also pray for her Mom (and her whole family!) as they support her and love her and share in her pain!
There is actually a prayer vigil for four hours tomorrow (4-8) at Meadowlands CRC. You could lift that time up to the Lord as well.
The prayers of a righteous person are powerful and effective! I believe that whole-heartedly!

Redeemer

For those not in the RUC loop - Friday around 11am a squirrel met with the hydro transformer for the campus, they fought and both lost. The squirrel died and so did the power. A new transformer had to be brought in and installed. This involved a complete evacuation of the academic building. Then because of pilot lights, gas leaks and other resulting things the entirety of the on-campus population had to be shipped off to two hotels until such time that the dorms are safe to live in, and power has been restored.

There are a lot of things to pray for here - the entire situation is a logistical nightmare. You can imagine the choices and planning having to be made by the front office, RAs and HAs trying to find their students on a Friday afternoon without the use of phones, Student Life staff making sure that everyone gets settled in their hotel and that they represent Redeemer well, and all the students that have been displaced during one the busiest times of the school year. I'm sure there is more, but these are some good places to start.

Grandma Stewart

My Grandma has been in a lot of pain for the past couple of months, to the point where she hasn't been able to walk. They figured out on Friday that was because both of her hips are broken. She had surgery yesterday morning on the worse one. It was quite successful and she is starting the recovery process. She turns 87 next Monday.

Update on Aaron

he's better. he's starting to eat some foods, but he's still quite weak..can't even sit up in bed by himself without any help...but he's not delusional anymore, which is amazing. and his fever is gone, blood pressure, respiration, and heart rate are pretty much perfect.

Update on Aaron

Yesterday was not a good day. He was super confused, not speaking much, and when he did it was mumbly and incoherant. Today has been better. His fever is gone! He's on less oxygen, his blood pressure is up and his heart rate is down. An MRI was done this morning to check on brain activity - results are pending.

Gramma Poole

please pray for my gramma (many people at redeemer know her). she fell hard a week ago, breaking her hip and her femur and causing multiple fractures. she had surgery that went quite well, but she still is in a lot of pain. she has a hard time eating too much, and she often talks as if she wants to die now. she was also having doubts (the most steadfast, godly, faithful christian woman was having doubts!) thinking that God was punishing her for not reading her Bible enough, or praying enough or something, and she is just getting more and more incoherent. pray that she will have rest, and regain strength to live. pray that she'll be assured that she is still held in the arms of God, who loves her so much. thanks....

Prayers for Hollywood

Please pray for the missionaries in Hollywood. There are so many Christians working here in Hollywood, and they need our prayers just as much as any missionaries helping those in Africa. If you want to pray for something more specific, you can pray for my church -- Ecclesia Hollywood -- and you can pray for all of the students at LA Film Studies Centre. There are 48 of us here and we're all facing the pressure of being under constant stress as well as learning how to live for Christ here in LA -- very different challenges compared to life back at home. There a couple of the students who are not adjusting that well, so please pray for them as well. Okay that's all for now. Good idea Lstew.

Dawson College

Pray for the wounded students of the Dawson College shooting, some of whom are in critical condition; for the parents of the dead female student; for the parents; for the scared students; for the provincial police in Quebec; for a community that has been violated.

Sickness

A quick prayer request. There are a lot of students who are sick with colds and such right now. Just for prayer to get our strength back to continue with classes and enjoying life at Redeemer.
